If there is one thing I’ve learned about life, it’s that basketball isn’t just a sport, it is a lifeline, a family, and a language that brings people together. For me, it has always been so much more than just a game.

I grew up in Mexico, surrounded by passion for the game that started when I was just 5 years old. My uncle, like a father to me, introduced me to the game. It was our bond, those moments on the court weren’t just about shooting hoops, they were special moments. Basketball quickly turned into an obsession. In primary school, my teammates became my best friends, and the court became my sanctuary. Basketball gave me a sense of belonging.

As I got older, I pushed myself to reach new heights. I trained harder and achieved something I had always dreamed of—I played basketball at the university level in Mexico and competed in national tournaments. Along the way, I also had the opportunity to experience something unforgettable: I was invited to be an assistant coach at the first Jr. NBA Camp in Mexico. My coach had close ties with NBA coaches, and thanks to that, I was part of this incredible experience. Everything about it felt surreal—we travelled as NBA staff, stayed in the same hotels, flew on the same planes, it was like a dream. Those were some of the best moments of my life.

But life has a way of testing you, and sometimes it leads you down unexpected paths. For me, it meant leaving my home country to pursue academic opportunities in Denmark. It was a chance to grow, but it also meant stepping into the unknown—a new country, a new culture, and a blank slate.

Finding My Place in Denmark
When I arrived in Denmark, I knew one thing for sure: I couldn’t leave basketball behind. I started searching for a team, trying out for two or three clubs. But something was missing. The teams I found were focused solely on competition, there was no connection, and I didn´t want that.

One day, I saw a Facebook post about a club in Sydhavn, and I decided to give it a shot. But from the moment I stepped onto the court, I could feel the difference. This wasn’t just a team—it was a group of friends laughing and playing. It felt like home.

That club was B3B, and it changed everything. Francesca and Ugis, have created something truly special. It’s not just about playing; it’s about people and making everyone feel welcome.

Building Community Beyond the Court
Basketball has always been about community for me, and that has shaped everything I do. I’ve channelled that passion into two projects that are all about building community.

“Kóot Sports”, a sportswear brand based in Copenhagen that I started with my brother and a friend, with the main purpose of bringing people together, fostering a shared love for fitness and self-improvement – making everyone feel empowered and motivated to reach their potential.

And a streetwear brand Nothing”, based in Mexico, with the same ideals but focused on street culture.

Basketball has clearly taken me on an incredible journey—from Mexico to Denmark, from childhood dreams to adult challenges, showing me that it’s about the friendships we build, the lessons we learn, and the personal growth. And I’m just excited to see what’s next.
